MHMF OneRepublic

They played the main stage fairly early in the day. They did a great set, mixing up pop hits with musicianship. Would see again.

Ingrid did a nice, sweet set in front of a large, warm crowd. Creative with the crowd and changing up her hit. Would be great to see her in a smaller venue.

MHMF Day 2 Serena Ryder and Rose Hill Drive

Nice set by Serena. The local boys really cranked out. But isn’t that what you’d expect?

MHMF Day 1 Recap

July 20, 2008 by selfpoweredguy

It was a glorious day out here in Commerce City. The park is a great place for a festival like this. Lots of space. Close in, but open. The planners did a great job for a first year. Sure there was a few snags, but otherwise it was real nice.

Act that was great even though I wasn’t expecting it: Andrew Bird.

Act that was the biggest disappointment: Spoon.

Most magical moment during an act: Sunset over the mountains during Michael Franti.

MHMF Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

July 20, 2008 by selfpoweredguy

What a crowd! Whoo-ey! There must be 200 thousand here.

This set’s been interesting. Some old favorites, a Traveling Wilbury’s tune. Then he goes and brings Steve Winwood out on stage who proceeds to sing a Blind Faith song and another oldy. Not even a duet with TP. Fans were not amused. They’re here for another show. Ok, now we’re back to Tom. This is about what you’d imagine. Mostly the classics. Nice version of Learning to Fly.

MHMF Michael Franti

As I’m sure all their fans know, these guys rock. MF ahs a great positive energy, totally connected with the crowd and seemed to have a lot of spontaneous fun. Best part was the sunset during the set and bringing up two little girls for the last song. Magical.

MHMF Spoon

July 20, 2008 by selfpoweredguy

Well the boys from Austin did, well, ok. Their energy was really not what you’d expect at a festival. Kept shoiegazing and messing with pedals. Very little connection with the crowd. They really wanted to love the set, but it was just sort of a run through of their stuff. Hoped for more.

MHMF JJ Grey and Mofro

July 20, 2008 by selfpoweredguy

JJ pumped out that good ole southern soul stew. Mofro jams, trumpet, sax, organ, guitar. He played several originals and several motown favorites. Man, his voice is way stronger in person than on the albums. Another must see again.

MHMF Citizen Cope

July 19, 2008 by selfpoweredguy

Well, they all can’t be great. This main stage kinda sucks them all up. Let’s hope TP can liven it up. Last song was what you’d expect.

MHMF Andrew Bird

July 19, 2008 by selfpoweredguy

He was late so I got to see the first 4 songs. What a talent, what a genius. Of course, some of the lyrics are a little, well, dry and depressing. He cranked, loud and sounded great. Lot’s of looping throughout many songs. When you see the pics, look for the swirling victorola.
